Hello journal.
Things are going well for me. My life is happy and content.
I hope everyone else is doing well out there, too.

In The White Album, Joan Didion wrote, "We tell ourselves stories in order to live," and then proceeded to tell a story about a time in her life when the stories she told herself began to fail. Which may be how things go for many of us, and it certainly was for me. ...The things I was choosing not to do were adding up to a whole other life I was choosing not to live.

I know how you feel, Steve.

I am sorry I haven't been using my journal as much as I would like to.

I admire people who live lives where a single moment can be transformative. People who live with grace, beauty, and sweetness in their hearts.

I want to be this way. I will be this way, hopefully.
I desire grace.

I've been told that if you seek love, you should desire wisdom above all. So my journey begins now.

I miss you.

I wonder if you miss me, too.

I wish we could repair our friendship.

I would tell you how I met a soulmate, a boy like we both always dreamed of, everything we both wanted, except that he broke my cellotaped heart to pieces over and over again.
You would tell me about your life since we stopped talking in October. I want to know everything.

It's been approximately 85 days since we ended on absolutely terrible terms.

Do you miss me?

Maybe this is the way it's supposed to be.
You've changed, and I have, too.

I'm having trouble moving on and accepting that you are no longer a part of my life.
Sometimes I think about it and it hurts to breathe.

maybe the crux of this whole matter is that I lost two soulmates in October: him, and you.
i wonder why we don't die from broken hearts.

Update to last entry: Primary Strategy For Not Becoming Consumed in 'Fiery Pit of Boy' = Realize boy doesn't actually care about you in any way, shape, or form. And that you deserve someone who loves you back; loves you magically, beautifully, and fully.

I found a quote by Herman Hesse that fits me quite well, I think.

"Often it is the most deserving people who cannot help loving those who destroy them".

Oh well. Life is too short to take seriously, right?

I read another quote, and I've decided to use part of it as my primary way of living. Here it is:

"I've learned to just accept things and not question things too much. I've learned not to take things too seriously because it just stresses you out too much. I've learned to suck it up, keep my head up, and continue on with life like it didn't bother me at all."

Let's see how this goes.

Am linking to my new favourite website. It's beautiful lines - sometimes from a poem, a song, or just a random musing - paired with images.

So I went through the newest edition of Vogue today, the one with Michelle Obama on the cover.

By my count there are 336 pages devoted solely and presented explicitly as advertising space. This does not include the fold-out ad on the reverse side of the cover.

There are 171 pages of writing, articles, and fashion spreads. And we all know fashion spreads are just a way of legitimizing advertising certain brands.

The sad thing is that all of the articles this month are about women with power - Michelle Obama, Queen Rania of Jordan, Melinda Gates, even Stephenie Meyer for crying out loud!

How sad that, as the article on Queen Rania points out, 41 million girls around the world get no education at all. And yet here we are in North America, where so many girls (and boys) could still do with a solid briefing on how advertisers are constantly battling for their dollars

Excellent youtube video about this
